FAIRFIELD - A driver escaped serious injury after their car caught fire on I-95 late Tuesday.

Fairfield firefighters got the call at 11:30 p.m. and were on the scene within six minutes.

The fire was reported between northbound Exits 24 and 25.

Video by the Fairfield Fire Department shows the car nearly engulfed in flames.

“Upon arrival firefighters found a late model vehicle on fire. The driver safely exited the vehicle without injuries,” the department posted on its Facebook page.

“Our operations on the Interstate are very dangerous (especially at night). Please have patience with emergency services and tow recovery operators when we need to restrict traffic to one lane to safety conduct our operations. Thank you,” the department posted.
