This Sunday column marks the fifteenth year that yours truly has authored the Walden Social Lites column. Looking back at that first column in January, 2005, we announced the 2005 Ladies Association of Walden Woman of the Year Peggy Myers. Since that time, 15 very active Walden women have been recognized for their contributions to the Walden community and the Ladies Association. In 2006 I was privileged to be honored as such. Since that time the following wonderful women have been selected: Betty Ruffer, Chris Brock, Diane Konig, Bette Garland, Norma Reed, Peggie Miller, Linda Sustman, Janie Smith, Jackie Davis, Karla Seidule, and Kathy Schleper. Many of these ladies still serve the organization and attend meetings including 1994-1995 Award winner Peggy Shearer.
This year the 2019-2020 Woman of the Year Award goes to Texas native and Rice graduate Peggy Bramblett. Ms. Bramblett has given tirelessly of her time and energy to both the Association and community over the past 27 years that she has been a Walden resident. She has served the community in many capacities including LAW Treasurer and Hospitality Committee, Walden Golf Association Treasurer, Secretary of West Branch Friends of the Library, coordinator of the spring Friends book sale, and as Friends of Library Board member for 13 years and President for two terms. Along with the County Librarian Ms. Bramblett co-chaired the 25th Anniversary celebration of the City of Montgomery Library. She has made a positive contribution to both the Walden community and the Ladies Association. Congratulations go to our friend and Walden neighbor Peggy Bramblett.
