Book the date: Pequot Library’s summer sale starts Friday

The 55th “chapter” of the biggest book sale around opens Friday with more than 120,000 items on offer at the four-day Pequot Library event.
Books in more than 55 categories, plus thousands of records, CDs and DVDs, the online sale of rare and vintage text in advance, as well as an eclectic line-up of food trucks to nourish the expected crowd of bibliophiles.
The sale runs from Friday through Tuesday, under tents on the Great Lawn of the landmark library at 720 Pequot Ave. Hours and pricing are: Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., double the marked price; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., prices as marked; Monday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., half-price, and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., $5 per bag.
Proceeds from the sale help support library services and 500 yearly events and programs at the privately managed library.
Among the food trucks scheduled to be on premises are the Bodega Taco Truck Paula’s Ice Cream Truck, Shake Shack and the Phil & Tom Ice Cream Truck.
A "specials" online catalog of 228 higher value and/or scarce items is featured at www.pequotlibrary.org. Buyers have an opportunity to purchase two specials in advance of the sale, at 25 percent above the catalog price. The advance sale started July 18 and is by appointment only, which can be scheduled at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parking is available at the Pequot Library's parking lot, the Trinity Episcopal Church parking lot, corner of Pequot Avenue and Center Street; the Southport Congregational Church parking lot, 524 Pequot Ave. and across from church or, on the weekend, in the Southport Railroad Station parking lot at 400 Center St.
"Park for Food" at Trinity Church during Saturday and Sunday in exchange for a donation of canned food or funds. Collections benefit St. Luke's Food Pantry in Bridgeport.
