A 5-kilometer walk and run to generate donations to the annual Fairfield Police toy drive is planned Sunday morning, Dec. 21, with start and finish at the Scandanavian Club on South Pine Creek Road.

Organizers ask each participant to bring one new, unwrapped toy to the event for donation to the Fairfield Police Benevolent Association Toy Drive. Police this year will distribute toys to children in Bridgeport Hospital's pediatrics unit and to the Newtown Kindness/Charlotte Bacon Foundation, sponsors said.

Toys should be new, unwrapped and suitable for children ages one to 16.

The 5-k (three-mile) course is flat and loops through neighborhoods and wooded trails. Organizers said it is suitable for families and runners of all abilities

Online registration ends Dec. 19, according to the release. In addition to a toy, entry fees for participants are: children 18 and under, $5; adults 19 to 69, $10; adults 70 and over, free. On the morning of the event, sign-in starts at 8 a.m., followed by a kids "fun run" at 9 a.m., and the start of the 5-K run at 9:30. The Scandinavian Club is at 1351 S. Pine Creek Road.

Event sponsor William B. Meyer Inc. said that for each of its employees who participates in walk for toys it would donate $10 to Operation Hope, which provides services to the homeless and needy in Fairfield.

A limited number of long-sleeve race T-shirts are available for $12 during registration, and while supplies last on race day, organizers said.
