A New Year's weekend guide for Fairfield
Still haven't figured out a way to welcome 2011. Here's a few suggestions to keep the party going all New Year's weekend in Fairfield:
Head downtown on Friday to the Community Theater, 1424 Post Road, to catch screenings of two recently released hits -- "The Social Network" or "The Town." Tickets are just $4, leaving plenty of cash for popcorn. For showtimes, check communityfilm.org or call 203-255-6112.
Take the plunge -- or better yet, just watch as a group of "puffy men," as Fairfield Citizen columnist Thomas Lawlor puts it -- dive into the icy waters of Southport Harbor at 10 a.m. Saturday to raise money to fight epidermolysis bullosa. The spectacle -- a bracing way to start the new year even if you don't join in -- takes place at the docks at Ye Yacht Yard off Harbor Road in the Southport section of town. To make a donation to the charity, you can bring a check made out to "CCHMC EB Center" and write, in the memo field on the check: "FAC/EB Center/Shane DiGiovanna." Contributions also can be made online at: http://giving.cincinnatichildrens.org.
If you still have the energy after ringing in the New Year, on Saturday stop by the DJ dance party at Flipside, 1125 Post Road, featuring $5 house wines and a late-night menu until midnight. The party with DJ Mike Heredia starts at 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.flipsiderestaurant.com or call 203-292-8233.
Sunday is Family Fun Day at Nutmeg Bowl, 802 Villa Ave. From 5 to 10 p.m. enjoy "xtreme" bowling, along with a free pizza for $49 per lane, with up to five bowlers per lane. Check out www.nutmegbowl.com for details or call 203-367-7741.
Still not ready for 2011? Relive the '80s with a performance of the English Beat at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fairfield Theatre Co., 70 Sanford St. Tickets are $42. Call the box office at 203-259-1036 or visit fairfieldtheatre.org.
