Ann M. Bellew (McInerney), 78, of Easton, died April 6, 2010, in the care of hospice, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born in Kinvara, County Galway, Ireland, in 1931 to Michael and Winifred McInerney, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1950 at the age of 18. She met and married her husband of 58 years, Peter J. Bellew, and they settled on Bonney Terrace in Fairfield, where they raised five children.

She is survived by her husband, Peter; and four children, Michael J. Bellew of North Plainfield, N.J., Patricia B. Gray and her husband, John of Wellesley, Mass., Janet M. Grab and her husband, Glenn of Bethesda, Md., and Brian F. Bellew and Jane E. Kiernan of Chicago, Ill.; her three grandchildren, Christina M. Gray, John E. Gray III and Caroline M. Gray; as well as four sisters, two brothers and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Peter J. Bellew Jr. of Austin, Texas.

A proud member of the Gaelic-American Club in Fairfield, she enjoyed ceili dancing and singing in its glee club. She will be remembered by friends and family for her lovely lilting brogue, her quick wit, her sharp intelligence, her devotion to her family, her pride in her heritage, her love of music, and her great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, especially while on their yearly cruises in the Caribbean.

Friends are invited to join her family at a wake today, April 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 10, at 9:45 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church of Easton, 655 Morehouse Road, Easton; interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull, after which friends and family are invited to a reception at the Gaelic-American Club, 74 Beach Road, Fairfield.
