FAIRFIELD — Police are looking for two men who were seen on surveillance video stealing the cash drawer from a Black Rock Turnpike convenience store early Monday morning.

An alarm came in just after midnight, alerting police to a glass break at the Wheels Store, at the Citgo station at 2515 Black Rock Turnpike.

Officers arrived at the store within a minute and found the front door open.

A review of surveillance video showed two men in the parking lot walk up to the door and use crow bars to pry it open. They first tried to take the ATM but found it was too heavy. Instead, they took the cash drawer, police said, along with a few packs of Newport cigarettes. They got into a car that was parked next door.

Around 1:30 a.m., Bridgeport police called to report they had recovered the cash drawer, with two $20 bills, near Capital and Laurel avenues.

The cash drawer is valued at about $400, and contained $200 in cash and coins.
