First Step Basketball Camp taking registrations
Now in its 21st year, the First Step Basketball Camp for boys and girls entering first to fifth grades is now accepting applications for registration. Directed by former Ludlowe athletic director Dave Schulz, the camp takes place from June 26 to June 29 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Ludlowe HS gym. The fee is $150 which includes a camp ball. Fairfield Babe Ruth registration open
The Fairfield Babe Ruth Baseball Program is currently accepting registrations for the spring season from all players who reside in Fairfield between the ages of 13 and 18 (age is how old you are on 4/30/17). Fairfield Wildcats Registration underway
Registration is now open for the Fairfield Wildcats Youth Football program. Children in our tackle football program compete with and against children in their own grade. The Fairfield Wildcats are the largest Youth Football League in Fairfield. The Fairfield Wildcats offer tackle football NFL flag football and cheerleading. The Wildcats are a part of the Fairfield County Football League (FCFL) and play all their games within Fairfield County. Our award-winning cheer program has three separate age divisions. Greens Farms Academy Sports Roundup
The Greens Farms Academy boys golf won its first four matches and firing an all-time-low aggregate team score. In the Dragons’ last match, a 9-0 win over Hamden Hall at the New Haven Country Club, GFA shot 197 to establish a new school record for aggregate scoring. Eighth grader Will Lodge earned Medalist honors with a 36, followed closely by a 37 from senior Dustin Cook. Twins Giani and Piero Panariello each posted 41s, while senior Charlie Thompson shot a 42. Senior Curtis Tauck closed out the scoring with a 45.
After having its season opener postponed due to weather, the Dragons traveled to St. Luke’s for a 17-8 opening win last week. Kate Paliotta and Steph Wisterich combined to score 10 goals, netting five tallies each. Fairfield’s Alex Nesi scored a goal.
The Dragons are 1-1 on the season following a 9-6 loss to Wilbraham & Monson and a 13-8 win over Kingswood-Oxford. Zach Liston had seven goals in the two games.
The varsity team kicked off the season with a 4-3 win over St. Luke’s. The Dragons got a win at No. 2 singles from Connor McDonald with a three-set victory. GFA’s next win came at No. 1 doubles as senior captain Matt Smith and junior Sean Minson won a three-set decision. Sophomore Jack Wolfsohn picked-up the next win at No. 3 singles in three sets. The team’s final victory came at No. 3 doubles with junior Jason Garrelick and Jack Ramsay in straight sets.
After dropping its first two matches of the week, the Dragons rebounded to post a 7-2 win over Loomis Chafee. Singles players Devon Wolfe, Sarah Wagner, Ryan Boyle, Fairfield’s Kate Flicker and Stephanie Gentile all notched victories for the Dragons. GFA opened the season facing Hotchkiss, falling 6-1. Flicker was the lone Dragon to notch a point by winning her match, 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, (9-7).
