As a weak coastal low system passes through the area Wednesday, a period of light snow or flurries is expected in Connecticut, mixing with rain or becoming all rain along the coast, the National Weather Service’s latest forecast shows.

Ahead of the storm, strong winds have swept through the state with gusts recorded up to 45 mph in New London and 55 mph in New Haven, the weather service reported. Tuesday will bring mostly sunny skies and a high near 40, with wind chill values between 25 and 35 degrees. The temperature will drop to around 30 degrees at night.

Despite the forecast initially indicating up to 2 inches of snow possible Wednesday, the weather service briefing on Tuesday said it’s less likely to see accumulating snow. If the system continues to move along a southward trend, the weather service said, it’s possible much of the area will remain dry on Wednesday.

Snow will most likely fall in the late morning into the afternoon Wednesday. Less than an inch of snow is expected inland, with a spotty coating possible along the coast.

Skies will be mostly cloudy Wednesday, with a high near 40 degrees and a light wind. Wednesday night brings mostly cloudy skies that will gradually clear, as the temperature drops to a low around 25 degrees.

No alerts have been issued, and the weather service said it would not release any additional briefings on the expected weather unless there is a significant change in the forecast.

Thursday is forecast to bring mostly sunny skies and a high near 40 degrees. It’ll be mostly cloudy at night as the temperature drops to a low around 28 degrees.

It’ll be mostly cloudy Friday, with a high near 45 degrees. There’s a chance of rain showers Friday night, with mostly cloudy skies continuing and the temperature dropping to a low around 35 degrees.
