FAIRFIELD — A hearing on allocation of the town’s future federal Community Development Block Grant is planned Tuesday at old Town Hall.

The hearing is set at 6 p.m. in the second-floor conference room of the municipal office building at 611 Old Post Road.

The hearing will give the public a chance to comment on use of the $460,148 in CDBG funds the town expects to receive from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the year beginning Oct. 1.

The town solicits project proposals in conjunction with its CDBG planning and budgeting process. To be considered for CDBG funding, projects must be eligible to receive assistance under federal guidelines and meet one of three broad national objectives, according to town officials: benefit persons or issues related to low/moderate income; eliminate conditions of slums and/or blight, or meet an urgent need within the community. Applicants must also demonstrate that the proposed program or activity is consistent with the town’s Five Year Plan, which describes the overall needs, resources, priorities and proposed actions of the community, officials said.
