Checkpoints for those entering Fairfield's shoreline neighborhoods, staffed by National Guard personnel, are scheduled to be withdrawn by the end of Thursday -- except those by Fairfield Beach Road.

The checkpoints were erected by town officials to ensure public safety in those areas hit hardest last week by Hurricane Sandy, leaving widespread power outages and extensive flood damage in its wake.

Residents of the beach area seeking to enter the area to check on their property have been required to show an identification pass at the checkpoints.

Meanwhile, the town's debris and bulky waste pickups at curbside will continue.
