Congregation Beth El will commemorate Israel Independence Day with a kosher barbecue on Sunday, May 4, on the grounds of the 1200 Fairfield Woods Road synagogue.

The event begins at noon and will feature food prepared by Wandering Que -- Travelling Texas Kosher BBQ, music and children's activities, the synagogue said.

The barbecue is open to the public.

Wandering Que is a division of Gemstone Catering Inc., which operates out of the Lincoln Park Jewish Center in Yonkers, N.Y. It's meat and dairy commissaries are under the Rabbinic supervision of the Kashmu organization Star-K, according to its website.

Israel became an independent state on May 14, 1948. Many Jewish groups celebrate it on a weekend for greater participation.
