Bicyclist dies from injuries suffered in crash with pickup
The Fairfield Beach Road resident who suffered traumatic head injuries Monday when her bicycle collided with a pickup truck has died.
Elizabeth Lucas, 68, died shortly after midnight Wednesday at Bridgeport Hospital, where she had been in critical condition in the intensive-care unit since the accident, which took place about 3:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Rowland Road and Paulding Place.
Lucas was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
The pickup driver told police he had stopped at the intersection's stop sign, and then collided with Lucas as he moved forward. Lucas, he told officers, appeared suddenly in his field of vision just as they collided.
No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
