Fairfield Theatre Co. will host a performance by blues pianist, vocalist and songwriter Marcia Ball at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at StageOne, 70 Sanford St. Doors open 7 p.m.

One of her major influences is New Orleans singer Irma Thomas.

After the band she was with, called Freda and the Firedogs, broke up in 1974, she launched her solo career, signing to Capitol Records and debuting with the country album "Circuit Queen" in 1978. In 1998, she was nominated for both a Grammy and a Blues Music Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album and won for best Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year and for Best Blues Instrumentalist-Keyboards.

She has appeared on the nationally televised special "In Performance at the White House" with B.B. King and Della Reese.
