FAIRFIELD — A Bridgeport man arrested in May for breaking into a truck was charged on Thursday, July 14 with stealing the bike he used to try and allude police.

Jesse Cruz, 32, of East Eaton Street, was served with a warrant at state Superior Court in Bridgeport charging him with first-degree burglary and fifth-degree larceny.

Police originally arrested Cruz on May 29, when a Toilsome Hill Road resident called to report a stranger was sitting in their truck, which was parked on the street. Cruz fled the scene on a bike, but later dropped it and attempted to run from police. He was found with items stolen from the truck in his possession.

On June 2, another resident called to report his son’s Trek bicycle, worth $600, had been stolen from his garage sometime between May 26 and 29. After being shown a picture of the bike seized from Cruz, the homeowner identified it as the missing bicycle.

Cruz was held on a $1,000 bond and was arraigned on July 14.
