Bridgeport man busted for forgery in Fairfield
FAIRFIELD — A Bridgeport man, believed to be part of larger ring of check forgers, was arrested on a warrant Friday.
Matthew J. Brown, 51, of Pennsylvania Avenue, was charged with criminal attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, second-degree forgery, and conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery.
According to police, on April 22, 2015, Brown attempted to cash a forged check for $1,240 at Wells Fargo Bank. He was unable to cash the fraudulent check because other suspects had tried to do the same earlier that day, and the account for a local home health care agency had been flagged.
Brown was picked up by Bridgeport police while investigating an incident of disorderly conduct and turned over to Fairfield police.
He was held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on June 20.
