FAIRFIELD — A 28-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday, charged with driving off in an acquaintance’s car during an October traffic stop.
Lawrence Moore, of Waterman Street, was charged with first-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, and operating a motor vehicle under suspension. He was held on a $175,000 bond.
Police said the incident happened just before 2 a.m. Oct. 22, when an officer pulled over a car that didn’t stop for a stop sign. The driver got out of the car, and when he did, Moore jumped from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat and sped off. Police tried to stop Moore but were not successful.
The owner of the car, who was given a ticket at the time, said he only knew Moore by his street name, “Buma,” and that he wanted to file a stolen car report. He said he didn’t give Moore authorization to drive his car and didn’t know where he was taking it.
Through their investigation, police were able to identify Moore, and applied for the warrant.
Moore is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport Nov. 14.
