FAIRFIELD — A call about an erratic driver Monday night led to the arrest of Margaret Brown, 28, on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive right.

The caller said Brown narrowly missed striking her car. Police spotted Brown’s car around 10:40 p.m. near the Post Road traffic circle, where she was driving slowly through the circle, with her tires on the grass. According to the report, Brown’s speech was slurred and choppy, and she failed field sobriety tests. She allegedly told police she drank two or three bottles of Benadryl.

While in a holding cell, police said Brown began hitting herself, and throwing herself against the wall and floor. She was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport for an emergency committal.

Brown was released on a promise to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on April 18.
