Broken car window leads to woman’s arrest

FAIRFIELD — A 31-year-old Waterbury woman is facing charges after she allegedly punched out a window on her boyfriend’s car on Saturday evening.

Jennifer Peffers, of Schraffts Drive, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief.

According to police, she tracked her boyfriend to the parking garage behind the Fairfield University bookstore. Peffers said he had agreed to watch their 1-year-old son but instead went to meet a female friend from college at the Starbucks there. The boyfriend and the woman were sitting in the car when Peffers walked up.

The victim and his friend both told police Peffers pounded on the window several times before breaking it and stood behind the car as he was backing up in an attempt to leave.

Peffers said she thought her boyfriend was going to back into her, so she hit the window with a closed fist two or three times and it broke.

She was released on a promise to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on Monday.
