Bubbly bandit: Cops tracking down thief of high-end champagne
Police are applying for a warrant for a man suspected of stealing expensive bottles of champagne from area liquor stores.
The manager at Turnpike Spirit Shop, on Black Rock Turnpike, called police last Friday morning when they saw a man in the store that they recognized from an incident in September, when a bottle of Bollinger's champagne, worth $399.99, and a bottle of Tattinger's champagne, worth $199.95, were taken.
In the suspect's car, officers said they found a cold bottle of Dom Perignon, and a six-pack of beer. He said they he had purchased the champagne some time ago and had just taken it out of his refrigerator at home.
However, police discovered that security video from another liquor store, Al's Warehouse, on Kings Highway East, showed the suspect taking a bottle of Dom Perignon.
According to police, the suspect has an "extensive" criminal history.
