The CT Challenge Bike Ride in July raised a record $1.8 million for programs for cancer survivors, ride organizers announced.

More than 1,500 riders participated in the fundraiser July 25-26 that benefitted CT Challenge, the Southport cancer-survivorship center, the organization reported in a news release.

Riders ranging in age from 6 to 78 participated in rides of various lengths that started and finished at the Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport.

Five Fairfield cycling teams were among the event's top eight fundraisers, the center said, raising sums ranging from nearly $40,000 to more than $90,000.

The local teams included: The Oddsmakers, led by captain Karin Keith, $90,515; Flock of Cycles, captain Jon Slavin, $84,680; Ride Sally Ride, captain George Richards, $50,168; Look No Hands/OSG, captain Tracey Brittis, $39,652, and Team Sclafani, captain Bob Pogue, $39,021.

The 2015 CT Challenge ride is scheduled for July 24-25.
