Cards swiped from Fairfield U. locker ring up big charges
A patron of Fairfield University's recreation complex told police Tuesday to report his locker broken into and numerous items missing.
Among the items reported stolen in the Monday incident were: a $100 engraved money clip with $40 in cash, a Bank of America debit card, a license, credit cards and personal papers.
The victim subsequently found out $1,000 in unauthorized charges were made using one of the cards at Dick's Sporting Goods in Milford, a $100 purchase was made at Robek's in Milford, and $600 worth of items charged at Home Depot in Orange.
Lt. Jim Perez, a Fairfield police spokesman, advised people to take very little money and other valuables with them to a fitness facility. He added the valuables would be safer in a locked vehicle, out of sight, or in a zip-up pocket on the person's workout gear.
