Catherine (Kay) Elizabeth Kadar, 96, of Fairfield, wife of the late Charles C. Kadar, died Aug. 29 in Carolton Convalescent Home.

Born in New York, she moved to Connecticut as a child and attended Stratford schools and Butler Business College.

A longtime Fairfield resident, she was named in 1937 the first female manager of the Lowe's Poli Theater in Bridgeport. She and her husband were the owners of Larry's Diner in Fairfield for more than 38 years, and they also owned the Community Diner and the Beachside Bar, both in Fairfield. She was a member of Fayerweather Yacht Club and treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary for 50 years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include daughters Susan A. Felis and husband, Vincent, of Shelton, and Kathryn Kadar Scherwerts of Fairfield; a sister, Mae Chapman of Clearwater, Fla.; three grandchildren, Justin R. Cooper of Fairfield, David J. Kovacs of Meriden, N.H., and Dorinda A. Seamans and husband, Timothy, of Wilton; great-grandchildren; David, Bradley and Todd Seamans of Wilton; Jane, Laura, Henry and Emily Kovacs of Meriden, N.H. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Schick, Anna Scully and Veronica Fucci.

Calling hours will be 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road. A memorial service with the Rev. Judith Rhodes officiating will follow.
