The Oak Lawn Cemetery Association will dedicate a new veterans memorial at the entrance to the cemetery on Saturday, May 17.

The ceremony is planned at 10 a.m. at the 1530 Bronson Road cemetery.

The memorial includes a base of Vermont granite with an inscription and carved seal of the United States, a 30-foot flag pole, and a pair of granite benches, cemetery officials said.

The ceremony coincides with Armed Forces Day, established in 1949 to be observed on the third Saturday in May as a day to pay tribute to those who have served in the armed forces.

The ceremony is open to the public and refreshments will be served, cemetery officials said.
