A performance by pianist Spencer Myer will take place Sunday at the Pequot Library in the Southport section of town.

The concert, set for 4 p.m. in the library, 720 Pequot Ave., is sponsored by the Westport Arts Center.

Myer won first place in Westport’s Heida Hermanns Competition in 2002. He went on to win prizes at the William Kapell, Cleveland, Busoni and Montreal International competitions, according to publicity for the concert. He has been a soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Indianapolis, Knoxville, Phoenix, and New Haven symphonies.

Schumann’s Fantasy in C Major will be featured in Myer’s program, which also will include music by Mozart and Ravel as well as several rags by American William Bolcom.

"We’ve always featured at least one young artist in the season, but in the excellent pianist Spencer Myer, we’re inaugurating a tradition to bring in winners from years past of Westport’s prestigious Heida Hermanns International Music Competition," compose Russell Platt, the Westport Arts Center's curator for chamber music as well as the New Yorker music editor and critic, said in the press release.

Tickets for both the Myer concert and WAC’s chamber season are available on www.westportartscenter.org or by calling 203-222-7070.
