Cohen, Burger, Schwartz & Sax LLC, an accounting firm with offices on Black Rock Turnpike, has merged with a New Haven firm, forming a company with more than 45 employees and customers in Connecticut and New York.

The merger with Beers, Hamerman & Co. P.C. took effect Jan. 1, and the resulting firm is called Beers, Hamerman, Cohen & Burger, P.C., the company said in a news release.

The Cohen, Burger office at 2228 Black Rock Turnpike will be retained, along with the Beers Hamerman office at 234 Church St. in New Haven. Their workforces -- 20 employees in Fairfield and 26 in New Haven -- will not immediately be affected, but the firm said it anticipates growth over time.

Both firms were privately owned and financial details of the merger were not disclosed.

The merged firm said it offers a full range of accounting services to individuals, small businesses and corporations. They include tax preparation and planning; business advising; business valuations; litigation support and forensic accounting; and estate and trust services.

Co-managing partners of the merged firm are Edward Burger, who had been managing partner of the Fairfield firm, and David Migani, who had been managing partner of the New Haven firm, the company said.

In the release, Migani said the merger would expand the firms' services and geographic reach, while maintaining personal relationships with clients.
