FAIRFIELD — A man who hit a town plow during Saturday’s storm, and then drove away, was charged with driving under the influence.

Joseph Kowalsky, 67, was heading north on Reef Road when police said he drove through the stop sign at Oldfield Road, striking a town plow. Although Kowalsky initially stopped, he allegedly drove off while police were there. An officer began following Kowalsky, who then drove through a red light at the intersection with Post Road. The officer was able to pull Kowalsky over on Mill Plain Road.

A Reef Road resident, Kowalsky was also charged with interfering with an officer, failure to stop for a stop sign, traveling too fast for conditions, and failure to obey a traffic signal.

He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport March 5.
