Cops: BJ’s employee dipped into till to pay college bills
A 22-year-old college student admitted that he stole a little over $14,000 from cash receipts while working at BJ’s Wholesale Club here to pay his tuition at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, police said.
Shakeem T. Fowler, of Palisade Avenue in Bridgeport, turned himself in at police headquarters Wednesday, where he was charged with second-degree larceny.
Management at BJ’s Wholesale Club called police last September to report that while investigating another case of employee theft at the store, they discovered that Fowler had been stealing money over the course of the year, according to the report. He allegedly would delete cash transactions while working in the liquor department and pocket the cash, police said.
Fowler took about $600 each weekend, according to the report, to pay his tuition.
Bond was set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to appear Feb. 19 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
