Peter B. Stevenson, 52, of Dairy Road, Greenwich, broke into a parked car on the Post Road Sunday night and took two pairs of sunglasses.
Witnesses told police they saw a man, who appeared to be intoxicated, open the door to a Honda Civic and swipe an armful of items worth about $700 in total from the car. He dropped most of the items as he left the scene, heading toward Unquowa Road. There, police found him trying to hide in a dark alcove off the street.
He told police both pairs of sunglasses belonged to him. The items Stevenson dropped along the way included wallets, a GPS unit and blue tooth accessories, police said.
Stevenson was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Sept. 26 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
