A Westport woman allegedly rear-ended a car parked on Grasmere Avenue, not once, but three times, propelling it 29 feet into a telephone pole Monday night.

A witness called police around 8:30 p.m. Monday hearing a loud crash and looking out his window to see a red Ford Explorer strike the parked car three times before driving off. The impact of the crash shattered the rear window of the parked car, police said.

The witness followed the car into the nearby parking lot at Whole Foods, where police officers had to use their patrol cars to box in the Explorer as the driver attempted to leave, according to the report.

The driver, identified as Tara Bastick, 41, of Westfair Drive in Westport, told police that she had no recollection of hitting the parked car, according to the report. She failed field sobriety tests, police said, and was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Bastick was released on a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear Oct. 14 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
