Jonathan M. Metrano, 19, of Oakwood Drive, was charged with having weapons in a motor vehicle after police said they found a 10-inch machete in his hatchback.

Metrano was stopped by police around 2:30 a.m. Sunday for a loud muffler as he drove on Kings Highway near the Post Road. A search of the car took place when an officer said he smelled burnt marijuana, and that is when the machete was discovered, according to the report.

Metrano's passenger, William Mann, 19, of School Street, was issued an infraction for possession of less than a half-ounce of hashish.

Metrano was released on a $200 bond and is scheduled to appear April 15 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
