Cops: K9 sniffs out driver's illegal drugs

A 24-year-old Monroe man faces drug charges after police found him sleeping in his car on the side of Westport Turnpike around 10 a.m. Thursday.
Thomas Fino, 24, of West Maiden Lane, was asleep in the driver's seat and when the officer knocked on the window, he awoke and said he was on his way to work. Fino said he was feeling tired, so pulled over to take a nap. According to the report Fino was acting nervously and when asked if he had anything illegal in the car, he said he had some Suboxone pills. Police found two pills in the center console and called in Ruger, the department's K9, to search the car.
Ruger alerted the officers to three more Suboxone pills in a green computer bag on the back seat.
Suboxone is used to treat addiction to painkillers and opiates, and one of the possible side-effects is drowsiness.
