Cops: Man in dispute with Fairfield landlord was wanted fugitive
A man renting a room in a Palamar Drive home came to police headquarters Saturday for advice on a landlord-tenant issue, but instead wound up in handcuffs.
Theodore Cox, 46, was wanted as a fugitive from justice by police in Rhode Island for violating probation on a felony assault charge, Fairfield police said they learned after checking his background.
He was taken into custody and held on a $250,000 bond, police said, to be turned over to Rhode Island authorities.
Earlier that day, Cox's local landlord had called police to report that he had been living there on a month-to-month lease, and she wanted him to move out. She said he was refusing to leave, according to police, and allegedly threatened her.
