A 42-year-old Bridgeport man was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence after another motorist called Fairfield police to report that Robert Pastor was driving backwards down Easton Turnpike during the Tuesday night storm.

Police received a call about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday from a motorist who said that Pastor's minivan was at first sitting sideways across both lanes of Easton Turnpike.

Pastor then began driving backwards down the road, police were told. The caller followed Pastor until he pulled into a gas station at the corner of Fairfield Woods and Stratfield roads, according to the report.

There was a strong odor of alcohol on Pastor's breath, police said, he failed field sobriety tests. His Breathalyzer test results were 0.35, police said, while the legal limit is 0.08.

Pastor, a resident of Priscilla Circle, Bridgeport, was released after posting a $100 bond. He is scheduled to appear Oct. 1 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
