Police said 57-year-old Jennifer Guthrie told them she'd been drinking vodka since 9 a.m. Wednesday when she backed up her husband's 2015 Mercedes Benz and struck the garage at the couple's Burr Street home later that afternoon.

Guthrie was charged with driving under the influence and released after posting a $30 bond.

When officers arrived at the home around 4:19 p.m. Wednesday, Guthrie was holding a broom, and it appeared she was leaning on it for balance, according to the report. Her words were slurred and she had a strong odor of alcohol, police said.

The Mercedes struck the garage's center support beam and the left door, and also hit a second Mercedes, a 2009 model, that was parked inside the garage, police said.

Guthrie told officers she was moving her husband's car when it "took off," according to the report.

An inspector from the town's Building Department was called to the scene to check on the garage's structural damage.

Guthrie is scheduled to appear March 9 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
