Cops: Woman faces DUI charge after careening through Hulls Farm yards
Maggie White, 21, of Daybreak Road, was charged on a warrant Monday with driving under the influence in an Aug. 12 car accident.
White was driving west on Hulls Farm Road about 9:15 p.m., when police said she drove off the side of the road and into a front yard at 400 Hulls Farm Road, damaging 74 feet of lawn. She drove back out into the roadway and the car rotated about 90 degrees for 122 feet before entering the yard at 437 Hulls Farm Road, police said. The car took out mailboxes at 436 and 442 Hulls Farm before it flipped onto its roof and hit a fence.
She was standing outside of the car when officers arrived at the scene, but had suffered several cuts, police said.
White told police that a car traveling in the opposite direction entered her lane and, when she swerved to avoid a collision, she lost control of her car. She said she was coming from a party in Westport at the time, according to the report.
When police found White's driver's license, they said they noticed it had on it a white powdery substance. Because of the nature of the accident, White was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport for evaluation.
Police obtained blood and urine sample results from the hospital and applied for the DUI arrest warrant.
White was released after posting a $1,000 court-set cash bond and is scheduled to appear Oct. 8 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
