A teen prank sparked alarm Saturday morning when a mother pushing her child in a stroller saw two men in gas masks and army helmets driving a partially disassembled car through downtown.

The two 19-year-olds were wearing the gas mask and German-style World War II helmets as they drove down the Post Road in an older Mercedes missing its engine hood.

Police stopped the pair near South Benson Road, still wearing the gas masks and helmets. Benjamin Bernheim of Hillside Road and John Perlin of Congress Street said they were just joking around and were copying something similar they had seen on Instagram.

Both were issued a misdemeanor summons for breach of peace and released on a promise to appear Sept. 21 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
