Mejias faces a charge of sixth-degree larceny after police said he pretended to shop, loading groceries into a cart at the supermarket at 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff. He then put two bags of frozen shrimp, worth a total of $91, into a backpack and left without paying for them, according to the report.
Police discovered Norwalk police had an outstanding warrant for Mejias for larceny, and after being booked here, he was turned over to Norwalk.
He was released by Fairfield on a promise to appear April 20 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
