A Shady Brook Road man called police Tuesday asking for help in calling a phone number in Spain.
The man said he'd received a letter from the Spanish lottery informing him he'd won a substantial amount of money and to call the number listed. The letter also informed him that he was not to tell anyone of his winnings until a certain date.
Officers told the man the letter was a scam and advised him not to call the phone number. He apparently refused to let the officers see the letter or the phone number, but was again warned not to call the number.
