Police were called to the Best Western motel, 400 Kings Highway Cutoff, on Thursday night to investigate a complaint about a couple arguing in one of the rooms. When officers arrived, they heard a woman yelling, "Help me!" and a man yelling, "Get over here!"

They did not respond to a knock on the door, and the front desk clerk opened it for officers. In plain view on a dresser were drug paraphernalia, including a hypodermic needle, police said.

Jaime Lucas, 40, of Partridge Lane, Trumbull, was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jacqueline Renard, 25, of Osborn Avenue, Norwalk, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were released on a promise to appear Nov. 15 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
