Crafts programs at library's Fairfield Woods branch

Fairfield Public Library offers free crafts programs at its Fairfield Woods branch, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.
A "Purls of Wisdom" knitting group is held every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.
The drop-in sessions are for seasoned knitters as well as newcomers to the craft to work on their own projects or help with charity knitting projects. In the past, the group has worked on shawls and hats for the Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Institute, hats, mittens and scarves for Daughters of Charity childcare center and the Special Olympics scarf project.
The American Sewing Guild meets every third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first meeting this fall will be on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to mend, reuse and refurbish clothes and materials they may have in their homes. They are also encouraged to bring their own projects and sewing machines to celebrate National Sewing Month.
Scrappy Chics, a new program this fall for scrapbook enthusiasts, will meet every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. starting Monday, Sept. 26.
