FAIRFIELD — A Pierce Street man is in custody, after police said he struck a bicyclist on Black Rock Turnpike Tuesday morning and then fled the scene.
The crash happened just before noon, and police received multiple 911 calls about the accident. The car, which had heavy front end damage, fled the scene southbound on the Merritt Parkway. Westport police stopped the car, which at that point was heading northbound on the parkway, moments after the car’s description was broadcast.

The cyclist, a 43-year-old Darien man, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital. The extent of his injuries was unknown as of Tuesday evening.
The accident remains under investigation.
