DeLoss Blackburn, 89, of Southport and Vero Beach, Fla., died Jan. 19.

Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of Ralph and Dorothy (DeLoss) Blackburn and a Fairfield area resident his entire life.

A graduate of Fairfield schools and Nichols College, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a retired officer of People's Bank.

He served on several organizations' board of directors, including Wakeman Boys/Girls Club, Greens Farms Academy, Burroughs Home and Bordman Beardsley Home, where he was an advocate for the care of the elderly. He also served on the Fairfield's Ethics Commission and the Retirement Board, as well as the Red Cross, Family Service of Fairfield and the Connecticut Waterfowlers Association. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Country Club of Fairfield and Pequot Yacht Club.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Blackburn; his children, DeLoss Blackburn Jr. and Jennifer Walker and her husband Steven Walker, and grandchildren Colby Walker and Alexander Walker.

Private services will take place at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakeman Boys/Girls Club, 385 Center St., Southport, CT 06890. Arrangements are handled by the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, Fairfield.
