FAIRFIELD — A 48-year-old Derby man would have made off with a handy supply of deodorant sticks had he not been caught by police.

Manuel Teixeira, of Derby, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7 after he was observed to be concealing several deodorant sticks in his pockets at Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue, police said. The amount of deodorant Teixeira had on him amounted to $312.71.

Teixeira was released on a promise to appear and was issued a Dec. 17 court date.
