Dr. Charles D. McCullough, 81, of the Southport section of Fairfield, died Dec. 20, 2010.

Born in Bridgeport to Charles H. and Marjorie Discant McCullough, he lived in Fairfield most of his life. He graduated from Fairfield College Preparatory School, Class of 1947, and was among the first registrants at Fairfield University and while there served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

He earned a medical degree from New York Medical College in 1958, interned at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport and continued his education with an obstetrics-gynecology residency at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City. Upon his return to Fairfield County, he became a partner in the OB-GYN Specialty Group of Bridgeport and maintained privileges at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport Hospital and Park City Hospital until his retirement in 1982.

He was a founding member of both the OB-GYN Society of Bridgeport and the St. Patrick's Day Scholarship Fund. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield, and was a longtime board member of the Southport Woods Condominium Association as well as the homeowners' associations in Point Arundel, Kennebunkport, Maine, and Terres Basses, St. Martin, FWI, where he maintained homes.

He enjoyed music and the performing arts, traveling the world and companionship of his golden retriever, Sybil.

Survivors include his cousins, Marilyn Wilhelm and Carol Wanzie, both of Florida, and their families.

Calling hours will take place Dec. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1290 Post Road. Funeral services will take place at 10:15 a.m. Dec. 30 from the funeral home and 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's of Padua Church, 147 South Pine Creek Road, with the Rev. John Hanwell, S.J., officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
