Robert Onthank Jr., 23, a visitor to the Fairfield University campus, was charged with driving under the influence and operating with a suspended license shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The Wilton resident was pulled over by campus police after he failed to stop at a stop sign near the main entrance, police said. The public safety officer smelled an odor of alcohol on Onthank's breath, according to the report, and also observed an open can of beer on the floor as well as an empty bottle of Captain Morgan Rum bottle.

Fairfield police were called to the campus, where Onthank was placed under arrest after failing field sobriety tests, police said.

Released on $1,000 bond, Onthank is scheduled to face charges Sept. 26 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
