Driver distracted by phone and cake
FAIRFIELD — A one-car crash back in October has led to the arrest on a warrant of a Bridgeport woman.
Becky S. Brown, 56, of Cartright Street, was charged Monday with driving under the influence of drugs, driving while distracted, and failure to obey a stop sign.
According to the police report, Brown was driving on Tunxis Hill Cut-off on Oct. 25 when she went through a stop sign and drove off the road, striking a tree head on. The accident was called in just before noon by a mail carrier.
Brown allegedly told police she had taken Xanax and codeine prior to driving, and was talking on the phone and adjusting a cake that was on the passenger seat when the crash happened.
She was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for evaluation following the accident. Blood tests indicated the presence of opiates and benzodiazapene in her system, according to the report.
Brown was held on a court-set bond of $5,000. She is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport Dec. 5.
