Emily Sophia (Ryan) Westberg, 95, of Fairfield, died Feb. 28, 2010, in her home.

She is survived by two sons, Kevin Ryan Westberg and his wife, Leigh of Fairfield, and Jon Michael Westberg of California; one daughter, Kaaren Whitney of Suffolk, England; five grandchildren, Melisa Westberg of Milford, Kendra D'Andrea of Fairfield, Alexandra Moore of Brighton, England, Kara Wilson and Ryan Westberg, both of Fairfield; and seven great-grandchildren, Hanna and Gavin Westberg, Morgan and Sydney D'Andrea, Amelie and Zachary Moore and Annika Acuff.

Born in Newark, N.J., on March 23, 1914, to Emily Sophia (Becker) and Michael Joseph Ryan, she graduated from Clara Maas School of Nursing, then specialized in pediatrics. She worked in Norwalk Hospital before and after marrying Herbert August Westberg on April 9, 1939, as well as doing private duty work.

After moving to Fairfield in 1950, she was active in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, the Girl Scouts, the Cub Scouts, the American Red Cross blood banks and Church Women United.

Her sister, Frances Marie (Ryan) Link, and her brother, Thomas Francis Ryan, both predeceased her.

The family would like to thank the residents and staff of the Carriage Green in Milford, the Vitas staff and especially Anna Janet Kafando, who has given such loving care for the last several years.

A private interment will take place at St. Thomas cemetery and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
