David Ebling, the housemaster at Fairfield Warde High School’s Fitts House, has been promoted to be the school’s next headmaster.

Ebling will succeed James Coyne, who is retiring as the school’s top administrator after 11 years, according to an announcement from Superintendent of Schools David Title. Ebling will assume his new job Aug. 1.

"I am thrilled to appoint Mr. Ebling to this position. He has distinguished himself as an outstanding instructional leader in his role as Fitts housemaster," Title said in the announcement of Ebling’s appointment. "He is the perfect fit to lead this outstanding school."

Ebling began his educational career as a high school social studies teacher in Massachusetts. He later began teaching at Notre Dame High School, eventually serving as the Social Studies Department chairman there. Ebling was named Fitts housemaster in 1995, and also served as interim headmaster at Fairfield Ludlowe High School during 2009-10 year.

“I am very pleased the administration and search committee have confidence in my leadership skills. I am looking forward to my new role at Fairfield Warde to support all of our students, staff and parents to the very best of my abilities,” Ebling said in the school district’s statement. “It has been a wonderful experience working with Mr. Coyne and I hope to continue his exemplary leadership as the new headmaster.”
