Eleanor Jones Ianiri, 82, a 42-year resident of Fairfield, died Dec. 15, 2010, at home.

The daughter of the late Joseph Matthew Jones Sr. and Lucy Gabriella Blazina of New York City, she was the wife of the late John Charles Ianiri.

She was born in Harrison, N.Y., and graduated from Palo Alto High School and began a career as an executive assistant to the president of B. Altman & Co., New York. She married John Ianiri after he served in World War II and graduated from Dartmouth College, and they began raising a family. He died from leukemia at age 37, and she dedicated her life to raising her family.

She was an avid reader, loved gardening, cooking, word games and puzzles. As a native New Yorker, she had a lifelong affection for the New York Yankees and Giants.

Survivors include five children, Jeanne Gaskell and her husband, Rod, of Hingham, Mass., John and his wife, Mandy (Turner), of Easton, Thomas Ianiri and his wife, Berit, of Fairfield, James Ianiri, and his wife, Rebecca (Sacks), of Norwell, Mass., and Kathleen Eigenrauch and her husband, Ralph, of Trumbull; six grandchildren, Shawn, Stefan, Hope, Mait, Christopher and Valerie; a brother, Joseph M. Jones Sr., and his wife, Josephine, of San Diego, Calif.; two cousins, Warren Dawson of Florida and Raymond Klein of New York; 11 nieces and nephews; and great- and grand-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Jones of Virginia.

A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, with the Rev. Guido Montanaro officiating. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
